SIGGRAPH 2015 Microtexture Imaging

At SIGGRAPH 2015 we challenged attendees to bring or prepare samples to be imaged – using our Magnify2 system – at very high resolutions (2,000 pixels per inch to 25,400 ppi).  This equates to imaging at a scale of between 1 micron and 12 microns. At this magnification everyday items take on amazing abstract forms, with most if not all items becoming unrecognizable as one zooms in.

For example, in the poster below, would you guess that the image on the left is a solid rock sample, photographed using polarized light?
